Post one. Welcome all or none. I have several reasons for making this site;
Maybe it has something to do with all of the squarespace sponsorships I see on every video about photos or art. It seems like there is absolutely no way to put yourself online (not relying on social media) without a squarespace website. I don't like being told what to do. I would rather learn to code and make my own site that looks like dogshit and takes way longer to get right.
Who me? I'm Jake. I'm an "amateur photographer". I mainly shoot film (but some digital too) on gifted and thrifted cameras. I dabble sloppily in camera repair and have wasted time and money on several failed fixes. I've had a couple of successful repairs though. I replaced the pad of death on a $25 Yashica Electro, and I ungunked the focus guide rods on an old TLR and got it useable, although with varying quality of results.
I've been taking photos since the fall of 2023, starting on a Canon AE-1 that my wife found in the goodwill bins (approx. $1.03, sold by the pound) and Kodak Ultramax. My first roll was horrifically underexposed, but I didn't know what that meant, so I was hooked. I had two EOS cameras, once owned by my grandpa, that had been sitting in my childhood bedroom since 2009. I grabbed them and dusted them off, and bought a 50 1.4 off marketplace and put them to use.
Two years later, I have nearly thirty cameras, seventeen of which are functional. I have a few I don't use as often and I need to offload some of the junkers, so the number THIRTY is a bit inflated.
